Restorers For Christ®,
Pullers For Christ, RFC
Garage,
Rockcrawlers For Christ, RFC Kids, Iowa Speedway Ministries
Overview
The
motto of Team RFC® is; Bringing
Inspiration to the World of Motorsports.
Our method is by providing chaplains, primarily volunteer chaplains, for
motorsport events across North America.
Vision
There
are other ministries, large and small, serving across the motorsports
landscape. We seek collegial
relationships with them so that together there will be an effective
presence for Jesus Christ at every motorsports venue. These relationships were specifically
fostered by the coordinated
efforts of nine different ministries to put on a non-denominational chapel
service at the Performance Racing Industries trade show in Orlando, FL.
Programs
The
largest program is Racers For Christ® through which chaplains serve at auto,
motorcycle, boat and airplane races.
Rodders For Christ® is the program providing chaplains for car shows,
rod runs, and cruise-ins. The Restorers
For Christ® chaplains serve the vintage and classic car restoration
community. Pullers For
Christ chaplains operate in the increasingly popular arena of truck and tractor
pulling competitions. RFC Garage is a
teen outreach program where youth learn about working on cars and working in
motorsports alongside seasoned mentors in a Christ-centered environment. RFC kids is a
recently launched children’s ministry with fun activities and teaching for kids
at selected multiple day racing events. Iowa Speedway Ministries focuses on ministry services to competitors, staff, and guests at this state-of-the-art venue in Newton, IA. Team RFC® is the marketing umbrella under which each program is organized.
Innovation
The year 2009 was the first time that an existing ministry (Iowa Speedway Ministries) was enfolded into our organization instead of being launched from scratch.
Executive Staff
Rev.
Larry Smiley, of Arcadia, OK, joined this ministry in 1997 and became the
president in 2005. Rev. Paul Neighbors,
of Mesa, AZ, joined the staff in 2000 and became the executive director in
2004. Rev. Jim Jack, on staff since
1994, calls Gilbert, AZ his home and serves as the Field Ministry Director.
Chaplains
During
2009, 57 new chaplains were added to Team RFC®.
These 251 chaplains, 96% of whom volunteer their time, were involved in
2,295 ministry events. They officiated
for 38 weddings and conducted 70 funerals or memorial services. During the year they made 181 hospital visits
or sick calls independent from those made directly in conjunction with a
motorsporting event. The chaplains
conducted 775 chapel services with a total of 31,383 people in attendance.
Fiscal News
After a financial struggle in 2008, the Lord blessed this ministry through 2009 with the means to serve our communities with excellence and finish in the black with a record income. The 2009 Form 990 is available through this link.
