Praying About Everything
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about
everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you
do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than
the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as
you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6, 7 NLT
I must admit that my time
spent in prayer isn’t always what it should be. My busy-ness gets the best of
me and I find that all too often much of the day has gone by and I’ve yet to
talk with my Creator God. Then I think, “What would my relationship with my
husband be like if we didn’t communicate on a regular basis? Pretty weak,
huh?” The thought drives me to my quiet place in humble repentance and
wondrous awe that the God of the universe would care to bend down and listen
to my prayers! (Psalm 17:6 NLT)
I’m thankful God gives us such
freedom in our prayers. Sometimes my prayers are simple and to the point;
other times the words pour out from my inner most being in despair or joy or
a combination of both. At times I speak them out loud, but mostly they are a
silent communication between me and my God.
Because I need the structure
to keep my thoughts organized, many times I use the ACTS approach (A =
adoration, C = confession, T = thanksgiving, S = supplication), but
frequently I just pray spontaneously what’s in my heart. Often I look to the
scriptures, praying the Psalms, the Lord’s Prayer, or other scriptures that
speak to me in a special way.
No matter when or how we pray,
our prayers are important to God. In fact, they are as incense – a sweet
aromatic gift to Him. (Rev. 5:8) What an amazing thought! Have you sent up
your offering to God today? It’s important to Him and to you.
“Pray often; for prayer is a shield to the soul, a
sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan.” John Bunyan
