We have just returned home after being on the road for over 7 weeks. We started out May 27th for the SDBA boat race in Muddy Bottoms, LA, then on to 6 NHRA National events before heading back home. We encountered a few stumbling blocks throughout the trip but it was all worth it seeing God move during each event.
While we were in Epping, New Hampshire, on this particular Sunday, Beverly and I were taking down chapel flyers between pro rounds. A gentleman walked up to me and introduced himself as a recovering drug and alcohol abuser. God had saved him and he was only a few months into his new life of following Christ. He asked if we would keep him in our prayers so he would stay on the “straight and narrow” and not go back to his old life. We told him, “of course we would.” We talked a bit longer and then went on our way. After we drove off the Lord spoke to me and said, “You need to pray with him now.” Immediately I spun around and caught up with him and said, “Let’s pray, brother.”
The next week in Bristol, during our Friday afternoon driver and crewmember Bible study, this very story was brought up from another brother. I had no idea the man had stopped and told him what had just happened. He said that the man was so thankful I had turned around and came back to pray with him; he had to share it with someone.
I’m telling this story not so you can say good job or to pat myself on the back, but to show that it’s easy to get too busy and forget the main reason we are on this earth…to help others. God says in His Word, in Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
We are here to fulfill the ministry Jesus started on this earth over 2000 years ago – serve one another and lift each other up in prayer.
Thank you again and may God continue to bless you and your families.
