The Tune Up
Whenever you are at the races and driving through the pits you can always count on seeing someone working on their car. It can be something as simple as changing the oil or air filter. Sometimes it is not that simple. They may have to replace a camshaft, valves or possibly the entire motor.
Doing the preventative maintenance on a motor, can help prevent catastrophic failures. Not always, but it sure helps a motor run longer and have better performance. Some of the most common items to be replaced are the oil, air filter and spark plugs. Why are these changed so often? It is because they break down, get dirty, and become corroded. When that happens, things don’t run as well.
If your motor has spark plugs that are fouled with carbon deposits, you won’t get very good performance. There can be times when just one spark plug isn’t working properly. It may not be bad; it could be dirty and just need cleaned. So, we get out the wire brush and clean off the crud, which is keeping it from providing good spark to that cylinder.
The same goes with you and me. We need to make sure we do not have anything keeping us from living the best life; the life God intended for us. We need to constantly be looking at ourselves to see if there is anything within us needing that same kind of maintenance. The world will slowly corrode and pollute us. Spending time with God, in His word, is a good way to maintain our spiritual life. It will help us live our life more in tune with God.
“Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.” James 1:21 (NIV)
