Racecars and baseball…two of the great sports that the Good Lord has blessed us with.  As many of you know, I had the privilege of being able to play highly competitive baseball and also to grow up as a RK (Racetrack Kid).  Both, have been extremely good to me.  However, it was through racing that God opened the doors for me and my family to serve in this ministry capacity.

Like any sport, racing is fundamentally a team endeavor. Achieving the set goals and requirements necessitates collaborative effort from all members. Recently, I encountered an image that highlighted this concept—a first baseman stretching to catch a ball thrown from an infielder. The caption read, “Behind every great infielder is a first baseman willing to stretch the limits.” This notion offers valuable insight and motivation, particularly for those engaged in ministry. It is my hope that RFC can embody this principle, demonstrating a willingness to extend ourselves and be challenged for the advancement of the gospel.

In 2 Thessalonians 3:1, Paul gives us a similar idea and drives home the importance of praying for your team.  Read it with me:

“Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you.”

Paul is requesting prayer for the gospel’s advancement; he prays that the word of the Lord (the gospel) would speed ahead (enjoy unhindered progress) and be honored (by people acknowledging its truth and embracing God’s offer of salvation).

So here it is…be the first baseman who stretches their prayer life for your ministry team.  Meaning, we need to pray for each other, we need to pray for the advancement of the gospel, and we need to pray that our ministry team honors the Lord in word and deed.

May we never become content in ministry…but ALWAYS remain hungry for Jesus and that includes praying for your team…
