Colossians 3:1-2

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

If we want to have right thinking, we need to set our minds on things above. Recently when I was stressed and feeling overwhelmed, I imagined being in heaven looking down on the earth. I was amazed how my stress began to fade. The important things rose to the surface, things like: Jesus, his peace, and the beauty of creation.

In these verses, why are we told to set our hearts before setting our minds? I think because what we love is what we think about. If we love Jesus and truly want to please Him, our affection will be on Him and therefore, our minds will be too. Set your mind on Jesus and everything else will follow.
