Inquire

By Joey Keith – Region 4/5 Director

An inquiring heart – I want us today to consider how the Bible helps us bring clarity to our ever changing, busy lifestyle. The desire for us to INQUIRE of the Lord, seeking what is best from Him…not the world…or the culture around us. We can choose to look and act like everyone else, or we can choose to allow the Holy Spirit to move in us, shape, and mold us to be led by Him alone. So, with that in mind – let us read 1 Samuel 23:1-7.

1 Samuel 23:1-7 “Now they told David, “Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are robbing the threshing floors.” Therefore David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” And the Lord said to David, “Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah.” But David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more than if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?” Then David inquired of the Lord again. And the Lord answered him, “Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will give the Philistines into your hand.” And David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines and brought away their livestock and struck them with a great blow. So, David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

Notice that just because David had once been anointed by God’s prophet, he could win at any time in any place. He knew how important it was to be led by the Lord in every new situation. Not every opportunity for battle meant that he must engage in it.

Today, I would encourage you to inquire of the Lord in all situations of life. It could be a ministry opportunity, new job, or a diagnosis. In all things…seek the Lord and His guidance. Did you notice that David asked a second time? This was not a reflection of his lack of faith, it was to make sure that he heard the Lord correctly. Our lives are noisy…and sometimes, we need to make sure that we are hearing the Lord clearly.

David also knew that if God did lead him into a situation, God’s provision would follow. Wherever God leads us, there is an umbrella of protection and supply that stays over our heads. Under the umbrella are the divine resources of:

  • Wisdom
  • Grace
  • Provision

However, the umbrella goes only where God leads us to go. If we choose to turn left when God wants us to turn right, we cannot expect God to support the plans we made on our own.

Friends, make every effort to first inquire of the Lord…and if you need to make sure you heard Him right…inquire again.  And then, hold on and watch Him do a mighty work in you through His wisdom, grace and provision.

Today Matters…
